After about 6 years of constant use, my LL Bean bookbag was showing considerable wear. In what seems to be the 365-day year of replacing all the things, I decided to get a new bookbag and one that looked a little more- professional or polished than the LL Bean one that looked like the one I rocked in high school.
Searching around on eBags, I learned that like with most things in life, you can only choose three of the following four: low price, good look, size, and features. By features, I wanted two big compartments and little pockets to place all the cables I carry around. That isn’t going into sustainability and manufacturing practices. I thought I had found what I was looking for in the Dakine Detail 27L bag, so I put an order in.
I loved this bag at first, but after a month of light use (on my back to my office 2-3 a week, placing it on tables at home or work mostly, 3 flights), the bag’s bottom has shown considerable wear considering how little I’ve used it. Those black marks on the faux tan suede are wear marks, not dirt. You can actually feel that it’s worn and that there may be a hole starting to slowly form. I’m sure how this happened. I don’t wear particularly rough clothing, I haven’t even used the bookbag all that much.
Needless to say, it was disappointing and I don’t recommend this bag at all. Luckily, eBags is taking it back and issuing a refund. I ordered another bag, which hopefully will resolve the issues.
